The Japons green biorefinery is a production plant for the process-integrated production of animal feed, nutrient complexes, fertilizer and energy from the raw materials grass, clover and alfalfa.

The Japons agricultural biogas plant was expanded into a green biorefinery.

The original purely energetic utilization of the raw materials was expanded to include an integrated additional processing for materials. This means that valuable components (e.g. protein) are initially separated from the grass silage raw material, followed by further processing into marketable products.

This is followed by anaerobic fermentation of all secondary process streams to produce biogas and valuable fertilizer.

The combined heat and power plant (CHP) generates electricity and heat on site, which is fed into the higher-level electricity grid and the local heating network or is used directly on site.

The raw materials are produced in cooperation with over 50 farms in the Japons area.

BioNorum, having a strong focus on the quality of the raw materials, only processes certified organic silage from grass/clover/alfalfa mixtures.

In cooperation with our partners, we harvest up to 5000 tons of fresh mass per cut using efficient harvesting and raw material transport supply chain. The biomass is ensiled at the plant location.

The sustainability of our actions is important to us. We rely on organic farming for the production of raw materials.

In their farms, our agricultural partners have established the cultivation of grass/clover/alfalfa in their crop rotation.

Legumes symbiotic relationship with nitrogen-fixing soil bacteria enables the binding of atmospheric nitrogen in the soil, and makes it available as a substantial source of N for agricultural use.

This not only saves on nitrogen fertilizer usage, but also offsets energy consumption and emissions for the fertilizer production process.

In addition, the biogas slurry is available as a valuable agricultural fertilizer in the region. In this way, we create a direct cycle of essential soil nutrients.

Our agricultural practices directly support the generation of humus and increase the water storage capacity in soils, and are important contributions to sustainable agriculture.

The focus is on the production of certified organic products for specific applications.

  • Liquid nutrient concentrates for the nutrition of monogastric animals: pigs & chickens
  • Re-silaged press cake as roughage for ruminants
  • Concentrates of hydrolysed protein fractions (polypeptides & amino acids) for industrial applications
  • Lactic acid / lactate
  • Customized product solutions

Our products are currently not approved for human nutrition use. All production routines are strictly non-GMO and comply to requirements of a certified organic production routines.

  • Process heat requirement of the biorefinery:
The year-round operation of the biorefinery also enables direct utilization of the CHP surplus heat outside the heating period.

  • Joint raw material supply:
The biorefinery and the biogas plant are sharing a common raw material supply chain. This reduces the specific raw material costs for both processes and creates significant organizational advantages, particularly for the storage of silage.

  • Doing business jointly
Cooperation as a business model – together we create more.
In doing so, we can rely on diverse skills and experience in the team with the motivation to create something new TOGETHER.
